Paddock Session 2: Holbrook
'Birds, bush and beef' - balancing production and conservation A vibrant and active Landcare community has overseen a remarkable transformation of the Holbrook landscape, 70km northeast of Albury-Wodonga. Working in partnership with scientists, government agencies and the local community, the Holbrook Landcare group is realising a vision for a sustainable future that balances healthy productive farmland with the protection of biodiversity, water quality and soils. On this trip conference delegates witnessed how partnerships have been fostered, practicalities of vegetation management addressed, and discussed the future challenges for balancing conservation and production. The Holbrook Landcare Group is currently working with CSIRO scientists to see how effective they have been in bringing birds back into the landscape, and these scientists were on hand during the paddock session to discuss their findings and how they can be applied to other productive landscapes.
