3.1. Why is this question important?
If we monitor and then evaluate changes resulting from management of native vegetation, we know if we are having the desired effect or need to change management to achieve this. Monitoring and evaluation are an essential part of the cycle of management and allow us to draw inferences from current practices and make changes. Sometimes this is done in people’s heads, drawing on their knowledge of the farming systems they are working with. At other times, more objective monitoring tools are used. If we know that we are achieving our goals, we feel better about continuing the effort to manage our native vegetation.
