Armed with a better appreciation of the values of native vegetation and the pressures it faces, it is important to know what actions can be taken to manage it sustainably at the property scale. This includes for productive use, ecosystem services and conservation outcomes. This question therefore focuses on ‘action’. It considers how land managers can integrate different management goals and options into their farming systems. Examples of the main management techniques and approaches are provided for topics such as sustainable grazing of native vegetation, managing native vegetation for wildlife, fencing off remnants and riparian zones, exploring options in farm forestry and agroforestry and managing issues such as weeds, fire, pests and disease. Many of the approaches are highlighted in a series of case studies in Question 4 where property owners share their knowledge and experience of native vegetation management.
