The guide is structured around five major questions of interest to catchment and regional managers. Each chapter that addresses these key questions starts by discussing why the particular question is important. It goes on to consider recent advances that try to answer these questions, with a snapshot of what the National Land & Water Resources Audit (‘the Audit’) (see Box 2) has contributed so far. The lessons from other research and investigations that contribute significantly to answering the question are highlighted, and actions to assist with decision-making identified. The research findings are then used to look forward and ask “where to from here?” This section will help you keep track of current and proposed projects by directing you to institutions and programs that are major players in furthering research in the area. For each action identified, a coding system is used to further inform your regional decision-making. For easy reference, a checklist of the ‘Actions’ and ‘R&D Tips’ highlighted in the five key questions is provided. The concluding chapter points you in the direction of ‘Where to get help’. It compiles additional contacts, information, products and services that will provide the specific information you need to support catchment management and planning.
