Exchange: The national vegetation knowledge service

The National Vegetation Knowledge Service is about supporting communication and learning within the natural resource management (NRM) community, by linking regional networks with national organisations.  Exchange aims to bridge the gap between scientific research and the knowledge and information needs of users.

The service will facilitate exchange of information and thinking, identify gaps in understanding and identify the need for further investigation. The service will focus on applying knowledge to regional planning and on-ground action. By linking practitioners to current research and relevant researchers, Exchange provides the connection needed to deliver answers to regional vegetation management questions.

Exchange will assist to:

  • Enable regional NRM networks to acquire, apply, generate and transfer knowledge;
  • Establish new knowledge networks and pathways between national and regional bodies;
  • Generate and transfer information and tools across multiple regions;
  • Identify regional knowledge needs, and match these to knowledge providers; and
  • Seek out and share innovative knowledge and practices.

Bush Tracks: Shortcuts to vegetation information for natural resource management

Exchange is working with NRM organisations to assist in fulfilling knowledge needs through structured workshops, training programs, and a series of vegetation-related tools including Bush Tracks: Shortcuts to vegetation information for natural resource management

Bush Tracks is a handbook that introduces national R&D organisations and useful NRM vegetation publications and tools. It provides a snapshot of those organisations involved in vegetation research for natural resource management outcomes. Bush Tracks also contains reviews of 130 resource management publications selected by a large network of NRM professionals.

An on-line version of Bush Tracks can be found on the Greening Australia website. Details of new NRM publications will be added to this on-line database as they become available.

Bush Tracks is a useful publication to support the information contained in these vegetation directories.
