Department of Agriculture (DAWA)
DAWA is responsible for policy, research and information provision on farm forestry and revegetation. The website has a number of reports and fact sheets dealing with native vegetation – go to the link ‘Land Water + Environment’. The State branches of the Natural Heritage Trust and National Landcare Program are located within the South Perth head office.

Department of Conservation and Land Management (CALM)

CALM has statutory responsibility for managing land under the CALM Act including State forest, timber reserves and formal conservation reserves, and is the lead biodiversity conservation agency in the State. CALM undertakes management of, and research into, ecosystems including wetlands, revegetation including broadscale revegetation such as using oil mallees, and threatened species and threatening processes. Department of Environment (DoE)

This combines the former Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), and the Water and Rivers Commission (WRC). It is WA’s key environmental regulatory body, and manages land clearing.

Forest Products Commission (FPC)

FPC is WA’s trading enterprise for plantation management and commercial production from renewable timber resources. It manages tree-planting programs, sometimes in association with private landholders e.g. the Infinitree Program has the FPC partnering with farmers to create commercial tree plantations on their properties.

Natural Resource Management Office

This office aims to coordinate State Government activities across agencies in the natural resource management field. It is located at the Department of Agriculture (08 9368 3164) and has close links to the regional NRM groups which are recognised for funding applications through the Natural Heritage Trust, National Action Plan for Salinity and Water Quality and the National Landcare Program.
