Précis
As the title suggests, this paper takes an in-depth look at the current information about seed production of Australian native grasses. “This overview focuses on seed production issues for native grasses developed mainly for the temperate zone of southern Australia.” The review covers both the current knowledge and the challenges of native grass seed production from pre-establishment issues to post harvest stand management. The abstract is available at http://www.publish.csiro.au/nid/72/paper/EA04107.htm
Evaluation
This paper will be extremely useful for anyone contemplating medium to large-scale Australian native grass seed production for any number of end uses such as degraded native pasture composition, roadside vegetation, or conservation-oriented revegetation activities. The review covers current knowledge for many common native species, and highlights the gaps in knowledge to suggest areas of future research. The paper offers general guidelines as well as specific recommendations for some species. The reference list is also a wealth of information for those looking to go another level deep.
