SA Department of Water, Land & Biodiversity Conservation (DWLBC)

Government

"natural resources used sustainably to enhance quality of life"
About
The Department of Water, Land & Biodiversity Conservation is the lead agency with responsibility for the Native Vegetation (Miscellaneous) Act 2002. This Act establishes the Native Vegetation Council, which has responsibility to oversee all issues concerned with native vegetation. The Council is required to monitor the overall condition of the State's vegetation, to encourage the re-establishment of bush on over-cleared land, to encourage the protection of remnant areas of bushland under Heritage Agreements, and to oversee research into aspects of bushland management. It also considers applications to clear land, and establishes conditions under which clearance may be carried out.
Programs
The Centre for Natural Resource Management (08 8303 9704) undertakes research-related roles. It facilitates and encourages collaboration among researchers and supports regional delivery of improved on-ground outcomes. The Centre identifies and negotiates supplementary funding sources for NRM research, from both the public and private sectors.

DWLBC also manages applications for plantation forestry, and runs programs in salinity management (including airborne geophysical surveys) and water management. Details on these programs can be found on their website.
