CRC for Greenhouse Accounting

Cooperative Research Centres

“our mission is to provide research outputs for greenhouse emissions accounting at the national and project level”
About
The Cooperative Research Centre for Greenhouse Accounting has now ceased operation after completing its seven years of research. Information on the CRC's findings and research programs can be found at the website listed below.

The Greenhouse CRC had a vision of Australia meeting the greenhouse challenge on the land, supported by world-class capability in greenhouse accounting. The CRC promoted research findings for the economic, environmental and social benefit of Australia and the world.
Programs
The Accounting for Carbon program was aimed at improving capacities to estimate the pools of carbon in plants, soil and wood products across Australia.

The Plant Responses to Greenhouse program scientists were studying how plants will be affected by increased carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere interacting with biological nitrogen fixation and with nitrogen, phosphorous and water stresses.

The Carbon Cycle program was aimed at generating new understanding of the risks posed by climate change in managing the carbon cycle.

The Farming program was aimed at developing best management practices to reduce emissions of the greenhouse gases methane and nitrous oxide in the dairy, grains and cotton farming industries.

Development program scientists were involved in the development of guidelines on international and national good practice in greenhouse accounting for land-based sources and sinks. They also drew together CRC expertise to undertake consultancies and provide data, modelling and decision-support tools to government, industry, other researchers, and the broader community.

The Education program augmented and supported postgraduate training of students in relevant fields.

Products
The CRC for Greenhouse Accounting produced numerous research products (brochures, software, posters) and publications. A list of these products can be viewed at the website and most can be downloaded free of charge. In addition, the Centre administered a database of scientific publications with a search engine and produces the regular eCarbon News.
