Centre for Acid Sulfate Soil Research The Centre for Acid Sulfate Soil Research (CASSR) is the only research group of its kind in the world investigating acid sulfate soil-related issues, with particular reference to the impact of human activity. With a focus on soil science and environmental rehabilitation (including sedimentology, geochemistry, hydrology, aquatic ecology and land management), CASSR develops new methods for acid sulfate soil identification and the estimation of acidification potential; examines processes involved in acid sulfate soil oxidation and reduction; investigates interactions between acid sulfate soil management and the health of terrestrial and aquatic environments; and investigates innovative methods for acid sulfate soil management and rehabilitation. 02 6620 3650 lsulliva@scu.edu.au http://www.scu.edu.au/schools/esm/index.php?page_id=50&menu=13_72
Centre for Coastal Biogeochemistry The Centre for Coastal Biogeochemistry (CCB) is the only research group in Australia specifically dedicated to understanding how physical, geological, chemical and biological processes (biogeochemistry) interact to control the fate and effect of material on the metabolism of coastal ecosystems. It is an international leader in facilitating better understanding and improved management of coastal waterways (rivers, estuaries and inshore reef systems) impacted by nutrient enrichment and other stressors such as climate change, habitat loss, hydrological modifications and acid sulfate soils. 02 6620 3650 beyre@scu.edu.au http://www.scu.edu.au/schools/esm/index.php?page_id=53&menu=13_75
Centre for Sustainable Forestry The Centre for Sustainable Forestry (CSF) is a national leader in forest management. Current research includes: forest plantations, forest health and wood properties; commercial and conservation forestry in Australasia, sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America; farm forestry; and forestry planning and management. Impacts of insect pests and their treatment, tree improvement and integrated forestry operations and weed control are key areas of focus. A flagship program is FLORES (Forest Land Oriented Resource Envisioning System), a tool to support participatory modelling by rural landholders to examine possible ways to achieve economic security and sustainable environments. 02 6620 3650 jvanclay@scu.edu.au http://www.scu.edu.au/schools/esm/index.php?page_id=35&menu=13_49
Centre for Coastal Management The Centre for Coastal Management (CCM) operates as part of the SCU company, Norsearch Ltd. The Centre undertakes research, consulting and management services on a commercial basis. It aims for applied research in environmental management, harnesses a range of multi-disciplinary expertise, focuses on sustainable use of natural resources, and facilitates communication between stakeholder organisations. It's capabilities include resource inventory and survey of terrestrial, freshwater and marine ecosystems assessments; land use planning; environmental impact assessment; environmental management, monitoring and audit programs; and management of coastal areas. 02 6620 3650 lsulliva@scu.edu.au http://www.scu.edu.au/schools/esm/index.php?page_id=39&menu=13_53
